Being Filled with the Spirit
The key to Simeon's great anticipation was that he was filled with the Holy Spirit. As believers today, we too must seek to be filled and guided by the Spirit. When we walk in step with the Spirit, He will lead us into greater revelation and understanding of God's truth. The fullness of the Spirit empowers us to live righteously, worship wholeheartedly, and cultivate within us a spirit of wisdom and discernment. We cannot manufacture anticipation for Christ's return in our own strength. Our flesh will become weary and distracted. But when we turn fully to the Spirit and make room for Him to fill us, He keeps our lamps burning and eyes fixed on what is to come. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God destined for an eternal inheritance (Romans 8:16).
